Hi, I’m Catherine!

I am a junior at Tulane University and I love engineering! As you’ll see throughout this portfolio, I enjoy many hobbies and interests, but engineering is my pride and joy. Engineering at Tulane has taught me so many things beyond the coursework. Projects and outside work have taught me how to work in a team, the importance of perseverance, and so much about who I am.

Why engineering?

I did not start college as an engineering major. I took physics throughout my freshman year. I had never taken a physics class before because I did not expect to like it. I enjoyed biology in high school and knew the subjects were very different. As it turns out, I liked physics so much I changed my major to Engineering Physics. I find physics fascinating because it explains so much about our world. I loved that physics allows me to solve many types of problems based on principles of knowledge, rather than memorizing an answer. Once I began taking engineering classes, I found that the problem solving was even more complex and engaging. It ties together the physics I love and industry applications that intrigue me. I am so excited every day to learn more and bring myself closer to participating in industry.

What do you do in your free time?

I love to craft and get involved in my community!

Crafting can include my long-term hobbies (check out my sewing page!) or one-off projects like the paper mache shark on the left.

I try to get involved in my community in many ways. On campus, that often involves Tulane’s professional engineering fraternity. I am the fundraising chair for the 2025-2026 school year, so I plan events throughout the school year. I am also on our intramural volleyball team. Off campus, I love to support New Orleans traditions. I am a new member of King Cake Babies dance krewe (photo on the left is from last year), which means I will be in Pygmalion and Tucks parades this year. We’ve learned 4 songs so far!
